Wimbledon 2011 Odds and Picks: Roger Federer Wimbledon Preview

Many already consider Roger Federer the greatest player in tennis history as he holds the record with 16 Grand Slam championships. But former great Pete Sampras still holds one number over Federer: Sampras won a record seven Wimbledons in his Hall of Fame career.
Time is running out for Federer, can he tie Sampras in this year’s tournament? Wimbledon begins Monday in England and Federer is the second-favorite on Bodog Sportsbook’s tennis odds at 9/4.
Some were beginning to question whether Federer was on the way down as he hadn’t won a major since the 2010 Australian Open and had fallen to No. 3 in the rankings behind Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. But Federer played very well at the French Open on his worst surface, clay, ending Djokovic’s 43-match winning streak in their semifinal match before falling to clay-court master Nadal in the final. But that resurgence has another fairly good grass-court player thinking Federer will win Wimbledon No. 7 in a few weeks.
"I would go for Federer because of the way he played in Paris," said Bjorn Borg, who won five titles at Wimbledon. "That was his best tennis ever at the French Open. From the first match to the last, it was unbelievable to see."
Federer had reached the finals of Wimbledon every year from 2003-09 – losing only in 2008 to Nadal in perhaps the best tennis match ever – before falling to eventual finalist Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinals last year. Federer didn’t play a warm-up tournament for Wimbledon to rest a sore groin. He is seeded third for Wimbledon, meaning he would face Djokovic in the semifinals if form holds.
